In this high-energy class, students will explore breaking free from others’ expectations, choosing goodness, and embracing what makes them unique—all while rocking out to the iconic music of Descendants!
What to Expect Each Week:
Week 1 – April 28: Welcome to Auradon & the Isle of the Lost
Icebreakers and introductions to build connections
Overview of Descendants' story, themes, and characters
Introduction to music, acting, and movement for the class
Explore the question: What does it mean to choose your own story?
Week 2 – May 5: Meet the Villain Kids
Character exploration: Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos
Vocal warm-ups and learn the first group number: “Rotten to the Core”
Acting exercises focusing on embracing individuality
Begin choreography for key group numbers
Week 3 – May 12: Choosing Goodness
Acting exercises: Scene work that explores moments of transformation
Vocal training on solo and duet songs like “If Only” and “Chillin’ Like a Villain”
Continue choreography with emphasis on storytelling through dance
Discussion: What does it mean to break free from expectations?
Week 4 – May 19: Building Relationships & Confidence
Dive into character relationships with scene work and partner exercises
Integrate acting, singing, and movement in group scenes
Work on transitions between musical numbers
Reflection activity: How can we use our unique talents for good?
Week 5 – May 26: Polishing Performance Pieces
Full run-through of scenes with music and choreography
Focus on blocking and stage presence
Peer feedback to refine performances
Practice expressing emotions through song and movement
Week 6 – June 2: Dress Rehearsal Prep
Finalize costumes, props, and staging
Full run-through of the show with all elements combined
Focus on timing, transitions, and polishing details
Confidence-building exercises for performance day
Performance Day – Sunday, June 8:
Arrival Time: 12:30 PM for warm-ups and final preparations
Show Time: 2:30 PM – A magical performance of Descendants!
